The ‘beetle’ Nairo Quintana did not have a good finish in the last mountain stage of the 109th Tour de France. He not only moved away from his goal, the overall podium, but lost his 4th place to David Gaudu and came within seconds of losing to Louis Meintjes.

“I have given everything. When it is given, everything is given. We gave everything and it is what it is. They were not the best feelings, really. I was a little short of breath. I don’t want to say that it’s an excuse for what happened,” Quintana said, in dialogue with ESPN.

“We worked until the end, we have done a great Tour de France. Payment for so many wear days are sometimes given on days like today. It was a very fast race. The teammates did everything too”, added Nairo, who arrived at Hautacam in 13th place, 5’22” behind the winner Jonas Vingegaard.

“In the same way I had to fight with one, with another, as far as it goes. Then when I was left alone I took my rhythm and gave the maximum. We are still in a good position and we hope to set a correct time trial. We were there, among the top ten on the Tour”, concluded Quintana, who is 5th overall, 13’35” behind the leader Vingegaard.
