Granting his first interview to an international media outlet, the Prime Minister of the transition in Chad, Succès Masra, responded to questions from France 24. From N’Djamena, he assures that he “totally trusts” President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, of whom he was a fierce opponent. But, citing the instability of neighboring countries, the new Prime Minister now believes that the Chadian situation “is well worth reconciliation”.

Success Masra, the fiercest opponent of Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, became, to everyone’s surprise, on 1is January, his Prime Minister (of the transition).

“I believe in national reconciliation (…) Let the one who is once morest reconciliation throw the first stone at me,” explains the leader of the Transformers party on France 24.

Presidential perspective?

Chad just adopted a new Constitution at the end of December, adopted by referendum.

This is supposed to pave the way for elections and a return of civilians to power, promised two and a half years ago by the military junta, but postponed until the end of 2024.

“This is our objective” and “there are no elements today which can show that there would be no elections in 2024”, assures the Prime Minister of the transition.

Asked regarding his potential candidacy for this election, Succès Masra said he wanted, today, to “serve the Republic”, “as Prime Minister” (of the transition), adding that the “time will come when people will make their choice”.
