I have been waiting for 28 years’: Can Guru Somasundaram be the best actor?
Guru Somasundaram is a man who has turned Malayalam cinema lovers into fans with a single film.
Although Guru Somasundaram has appeared in many films before Minnal Murali, there has never been a film in his career that has received as much attention among the Malayalees as Minnal Murali.
Despite being a villain, Shibu had conquered the minds of the Malayalees. Even following the release of Minnal Murali in December, many had said that Guru Somasundaram, who played Shibu, would face stiff competition for the state award for best actor.
According to reports, Guru Somasundaram’s performance in Minnal Murali has put up a stiff competition in the Best Actor category.
In addition to Guru Somasundaram, Femina George, Vashisht Umesh, Baiju and Aju Varghese have been cast in the lead roles in the Tovino starrer. The film was released on Netflix and became a global hit.
The film, directed by Basil Joseph, was produced by Sofia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters. Sameer Tahir was the cinematographer.
Along with Guru Somasundaram, most of the Malayalam actors are competing in the Best Actor category.
Vannum and The Priest are competing in the State Film Awards for Mammootty films. Mohanlal’s Drishyam 2, Dulquer Salman, Pranav Mohanlal, Indrans and Suraj Venjaramoodu have also made it to the shortlist.
The award will be announced by a final jury chaired by Hindi director and screenwriter Syed Akhtar Mirza.
