“I am not a person who is interested in acting in many films. Even though the roles played are small, it is imperative that they win the hearts of the audience. Garuda is a mysterious character. Happy to hear that the story and the character have been accepted,” says Biju Menon

ASuresh Gopi-Biju Menon’s film Garudan hit the theaters without any fanfare. Starting with no buzz or house full shows, Garudan has soared beyond the expectations of the audience following the first week. Bijumenon’s character and performance shocked the audience in the movie where Suresh Gopi played the role of a cop. Bijumenon has been making leaps and bounds in Malayalam cinema for many years. During this time, he has changed many times as a hero, a villain, a co-star, an elder brother, a younger brother and a parent. Bijumenon is happy to get another powerful role in his acting career.

Garudaan is flying high, the comments regarding the movie and the character…

Many people are calling and congratulating Garuda. Everyone talks regarding the thrilling experience. A film holds the audience for over two hours, but that is no small feat. Happy to hear that the story, character and film have been accepted. The film goes through many changes. A short film like Garuda is jumping through the audience’s opinion at a time when the hyped foreign language films are causing a stir among the Malayalees. Garudan is a film that has moved away from the realistic storytelling that has been seen in Malayalam cinema for some time now and has added a lot of cinematic elements. Everyone is talking regarding the theater experience that the film gave. Garudaan is a must watch movie on the big screen.

Garuda has a mysterious role, and following much deliberation, he agrees to play the role…

Garudaan is a different character in my acting career and the story is heard from the director Arun Varman. After hearing the whole thing, I liked the role of teacher Nishant. I was saying that I would do the role if no one else said to give it to me. Looking at it like that, the role played in Garudaan is questionable. The director was hesitant to ask me if I might play the role.

Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon in Garudaan

As it is a suspense thriller, I know that I can’t say much regarding the character, but it is enough to ask, was the body language and movements expressed by the character in some cases the same as what was written in the script…

I don’t agree with the expression that everything is forgotten in the flow of the character. The description of what to do and the behaviors in each scenario are usually well documented in the script. Often you don’t need to do much more than that. Sometimes you get the freedom to get into the character and do something on your own. Garuda had such opportunities. It’s not just me that there’s a certain energy to certain scenes when you connect with your fellow actors, and when you get to know more regarding the characters, certain scenes go above and beyond what we thought they would. Happy when many people point out some of the subtle movements performed by the character in Garudaan, in that instance it happened. Asking how can’t be explained exactly.

After a long break, Suresh reunites with Gopi. Happiness in front of the camera…

Garudan is our first film together following Christian Brothers, and even though we don’t do films together and don’t see each other regularly, there is no shortage of friendship between us. Sureshetan has made a lot of compromises for this film. The shooting of Garuda was delayed when the shooting of some of my other films took longer than expected. All the while Sureshetan waited for me and was patient even when my date changed many times. Although Suresh Gopi has acted as one of his team many times in films, this is the first time that he is playing an opposite role opposite him. The match with Sureshetan has helped to spice up the scenes.

Vellimoonga, Ayyappan and Koshi, who knows, Garuda…an array of different characters are coming, trying to bring significant changes in the choice of characters…

I’m a person who doesn’t want to do a lot of films, and the current decision is to go with small, self-satisfying roles that stay in the minds of the audience. Interested in collaborating with characters that are innovative in any way. It was during the covid period that I was playing the role of an unknown age, and many people asked me why I am playing such a role now. Not only what is done, but also what is to be done is relevant.
