Olympiacos qualified for the final of the Conference League, which will take place at the OPAP Arena, and Vangelis Marinakis appeared confident that the “red and white” fans will respect AEK’s stadium.
Speaking on Channel 1 90.4 of Piraeus, Vangelis Marinakis recalled that he had granted “G. Karaiskakis” in AEK, for its European match once morest Dundee United in 2010 and stressed that Olympiakos fans will absolutely respect the OPAP Arena. “Everyone must work so that Greece can organize a brilliant final!” he pointed out.
“You will all remember that while I had just taken over Olympiacos, in August 2010, I gave our stadium to AEK to play with Dundee United for the Europa League playoffs because AEK’s stadium had problems. There were reactions from our fans at the time but I explained to them the simplest thing: We are doing it for our country and Greek football and I am not discussing it”, said Vangelis Marinakis initially and added:
“In the summer we organized a Super Cup final in Karaiskakis for which we as Olympiacos and our country received congratulations from everyone. Greece showed that it can organize big finals! And I would be happy if instead of Manchester City or Sevilla it was a Greek team, e.g. PAOK. I would happily give away the stadium suites and mine to make it easier for the Greek team! So I don’t understand the exaggerations regarding the final at the OPAP Arena”.
Finally, Vangelis Marinakis said: “Everyone must work so that Greece organizes a brilliant final! As for the Olympiacos who will be that night in New Philadelphia, of course they will respect the field, from the first to the last and will give their souls together with the team to win the trophy. So let’s stop the nonsense and let’s all work to make a final that will advertise Greece and Greek football will go higher! In this purpose we must all be together”.
