It is clear that emotions run high in such a personal case: At the start of the new season “Rosins Restaurants” (four new episodes, Thursdays, 8:15 p.m., kabel eins) the TV chef had to travel to his culinary nursery. Rosin’s recently deceased mother Marlies ran the “Glückauf-Grill” in Dorsten for 40 years until she retired in 2011. Now the now closed, ailing snack bar should experience a renaissance. Yet Frank came a bad suspicion: is the designated new operator of the cult booth a phony?
“If Frank wants to tell my tenant that I’m not the right one, then Frank isn’t the right one for me! Get rid of it! Then I can throw him down the bridge too!” Etched 41-year-old Josip, who dealt with the criticism of the celebrity chef mightn’t handle. But from the front.
Overwhelmed by the task in “Rosin’s Restaurants”: “I’m in a fix!”
When Frank Rosin found out from the new owner Patrick that the “Glückauf-Grill” was to reopen, there was no question that he would help. Especially since they wanted to continue the Ruhr area institution in the spirit of mother Rosin: She prepared all the dishes herself from fresh ingredients and was always ready to listen to her customers around the clock. Would Josip be the one to follow in those big footsteps? Frank and Patrick wanted to find out with a surprising test meal.
Since the “Glückauf-Grill” still had to be completely renovated, Josip was provided with a fully equipped food truck. His task: to cook typical snack dishes for 20 test eaters from the region in 90 minutes. The trained restaurant specialist, who is currently working as a house technician, should be able to do that, right?
None! “I’m in a fix, I can’t do it!” Complained Josip, who didn’t even know where to start. Only thanks to a few tips from Frank and the active support of Patrick did the residents of Dorsten finally get something to eat. “My mother would turn in her grave if she saw that!” Rosin scolded, disappointed. And the test eaters had hoped for more: “The meatball tasted like air!” Only Josip was satisfied. But not for long.
irreconcilable differences
Rosin confronted the restaurateur. He rode himself even further into the mess. Frank found out that Josip wanted to continue working as a house technician and only intended to open the grill following 5 p.m. on weekdays. “You can forget regarding that!” he moaned. “I knew then that he hadn’t thought it through!” Yes, yes! Josip wanted to show Frank a lot of notes and lists that he had already made. Just don’t stop immediately – there was some excuse once more. “I’ll tell you honestly, I don’t trust you!” The TV chef told him. His verdict on Josip was clear: “A bit of a dazzler!”
Patrick also started from a completely different business concept. Frank Rosin spoke to his conscience: “If Josip drives it once morest the wall, then the thing is done!” He explained. A job on the side is a completely wrong approach. Then Josip became spiteful: “Why? Your business isn’t working anymore? You’re now full-time out of the restaurant full-time!” me, now it is eaten for me!”
Happy ending for the “Glückauf-Grill”
The TV chef left the project – but really only to make Patrick think. With success: After some time to think regarding it, he gave Josip a refusal. Frank Rosin was immediately on board once more and found a suitable new operator in no time at all: Eric Jaeger, a second-generation snack bar in Dorsten. The “Frittenkönig” inspired test eaters and star chefs alike.
Meanwhile, Patrick and his team worked non-stop to refurbish the grill, which was completed at the last minute. An emotional moment for the maître: “It’s a shame that my parents don’t see it,” Rosin regretted at the reopening. “Both would be extremely proud – and would faint too!”
