The President of the Constituent Convention, María Elisa Quinteros referred this Saturday to the declarations of the constituent Andrés Cruz (Socialist Collective) who in interview with the third -and following the first week of voting on constitutional norms in plenary- He stated that in the constituent body “there is no dialogue, the right has been vetoed.”

“There are people who have vetoed sectors and people. And that, despite the often hypocritical rhetoric that is used abroad, pointing out that there is dialogue. That is false. There has not been that dialogue as fluid as it is said, What sectors that are as legitimate as us think have not been adequately collected, for the purposes of creating a Constitution that is projected for a long time. There are many conventionalists who have not realized that we are not drafting the definitive Constitution, we are proposing one. There is going to be an exit plebiscite that has not been won and there are many who consider it resolved. I do not see so clear. And to win the exit plebiscitewe are not going to have done our job either if they end up modifying everything two or three years following the new Fundamental Charter has been approved”, was one of the analyzes carried out by Cruz.

“The instances of dialogue have been from the beginning. At least I see the will of all sectors (…) I don’t know why he makes these statements, we should ask him (…) between all of us we have to seek dialogue and that space is given, ”Quinteros replied, adding -on CNN- that he sees in the Convention “the desire to move forward and build”.

The president of the Convention also referred to the statements made this week by the President Sebastián Piñera regarding the work of the constituent body, when he assured that “in the dialogue that is taking place in the Constitutional Convention, there is a lack of better will and understanding of this transcendental aspect of projection.” The President also stated that “that is the spirit that I ask the constituents, to make the Constitution not to make a government program, (…) not so that each one puts in the Constitution everything they want, but rather make a Constitution for all Chileans and for many decades”.

President Piñera: “In the dialogue that is taking place in the Constitutional Convention, there is a lack of better will and understanding of this transcendental aspect of projection”

“The Convention is independent and autonomous from the other powers, we have the mission to talk and that the majority was agreed, the 103 votes. The invitation is to learn regarding how the processes are taking place, that it is democratic and those of us who make up this space were democratically elected,” Quinteros assured, adding: “I don’t know why the President said that criticism, but this is serious work.”

Evaluation of the week and future deadlines

Quinteros also highlighted this week as “positive”: “We have been criticized previously that we were never going to be able to build the 2/3, but that is already a myth, there is a will”.

Next week, from February 21 to 23, the conventional ones will continue working in commissions. On Thursday 24 there will be a plenary session to evaluate “Report 1”.

“We have a clear schedule that is until July 4. Until April we have the processes of deliberation of norms. We are currently within the deadlines, but we have to evaluate this week how we continue and if we are going to achieve it or not. Time is very short,” he concluded.
