Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Moscow is not expected to need Western assistance in investigating the “Crocus” terrorist attack, due to its double standards and suspicious intentions.
Lavrov said in a press conference held following negotiations with his Namibian counterpart, Pia Muchelenga, in Moscow on Tuesday: “On the one hand, I am confident that we will successfully deal with this investigation. On the other hand, we are unlikely to need such assistance, which would clearly be a manifestation of double standards, and would most likely be aimed at “promoting a convenient theory for the West that this (terrorist act) was carried out by ISIS, and that Ukraine had nothing to do with it.” with it”.
Lavrov also pointed to a “surprising” statement by Interpol in which he expressed readiness to help Russia investigate the Crocus attack. The Russian minister said: “I do not remember an initiative like this from Interpol in previous cases that also required great international attention, and the most clear example is (Sabotage of gas pipelines) North Stream.”
Lavrov added: “We have long become accustomed to the double standards of our Western friends and will continue to act only on the basis of our full understanding of what the West seeks to achieve and by what methods.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian authorities know that the “Crocus” attack was carried out by “Islamic extremists,” but it is necessary to know who ordered it to be carried out.
He added that this attack may be just “a link in a whole series of attempts made by those who have been fighting our country since 2014 at the hands of the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev,” pointing out that “we must know the reason for the terrorists’ attempt to escape to Ukraine and who was waiting for them there.” The United States is also trying to convince everyone that Ukraine is not involved in the attack.”
