Ion Nicu Onut was, a year ago, a truck driver. But last July, the man was guilty of a terrible act which claimed the lives of three people. Married and father of a daughter, Ion caused a horror accident in the United Kingdom, on the A1 motorway in County Durham, because he used his phone while driving. And on a busy highway where traffic was just slowing down, it had terrible consequences.
His truck hit several cars before igniting. Witnesses also explained that the accident resembled “the explosion of a bomb”. Paul Mullen, Elaine Sullivan and David Daglish tragically lost their lives in this drama. So when the truth came out, the families were even more shocked: Ion was surfing on “adult dating sites.”

During his trial, the man apologized for the horror he caused. “When I saw the videos, I just… I don’t know, I can’t explain it. It was so disturbing to know that it was me who was going through the cars. I hadn’t planned on doing any harm, it was just another day at my job. I didn’t want it to be like this, I’m so sorry, ”he explained in statements reported by several British media.
“I have to understand that my life will never be the same once more, I have to pay for my mistakes, far from the real world, far from my friends and my family. I have never had the opportunity to apologize, to apologize to people who have lost loved ones,” he added.
Ion Nicu Onut was sentenced to a prison term of eight years and ten months.
