“I didn’t even look, I immediately called the police”

In Heestert (Zwevegem), in West Flanders, a fatal traffic accident occurred this Saturday morning. A trader was driving his truck to the market when he collided with a passenger car in the Stijn Streuvelsstraat.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old woman from Zwevegem, was ejected from the vehicle by the impact and died on the spot. The West Flanders public prosecutor’s office, Kortrijk section, has appointed a traffic expert to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.

For his part, the truck driver spoke regarding this tragic event. Everything happened so fast. Too fast. “She arrived quickly,” Koen Glorieux told Niuewsblad. “She got in my way, I mightn’t do anything. I got out of my truck but didn’t even look, I immediately called the police. »

The man knows that a family is now bereaved. “It’s terrible for her. I don’t wish that on anyone. I have been doing this route for forty years and I am happy when I arrive at the Avelgem market. It’s the road I like the least…”
