New York, USA (CNN)–It appears that golf superstar Greg Norman has played down the issue of the murder of Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, before the start of the new LIV Golf series for Saudi-backed professionals.
This came in statements to Norman at an event for LIV Golf at the Centurion Club in St Albans, Britain, where he said, according to what was reported by British media: “All these things are regarding Saudi Arabia and my fear and human rights, they talked regarding it, but also talked regarding the good that the country is doing in changing its culture”.
Norman, who is president of LIV Golf, added: “Look, we all made mistakes and we just want to learn from those mistakes and how you can correct them in the future,” adding: “I never had a personal conversation with Mohammed bin Salman. The same I read that the Saudi government has made its own statements and comments on this and they want to move forward.”
Norman, a 20-time PGA Tour winner and former world number 1 player, is a prominent face of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund-backed start-up LIV Golf Invitational Series, which will host its first competitions this summer.
