With the murder of Sindang Station, awareness of the crime of stalking is higher than ever.
Kim Byung-chan, who brutally murdered his ex-girlfriend, who was under police protection a year ago, was sentenced to 40 years in prison at the appeals court.
The court increased the sentence by five years more than the first trial, blaming Kim Byeong-chan for not knowing whether he was sincerely reflecting.

Kim Byung-chan, who visited his girlfriend regarding a year ago, imprisoned the victim and threatened with a weapon.
When the victim reported the stalking damage to the police, he ignored the restraining order and went to the victim and brutally killed him with a knife.

Kim Byeong-chan claimed that it was an “accidental crime”, but the first trial judge dismissed it, saying, “He prepared a hat and a weapon to cover his face in advance, and he committed the crime deliberately, and he attacked the victim who was begging and fleeing to the end.”
The court of first instance sentenced him to 35 years in prison.
Kim Byung-chan has admitted to the crime and is reflecting on it, but he appealed that the punishment was too heavy.
However, the second trial court dismissed it, saying, “It is doubtful whether Kim Byung-chan is sincerely reflecting.”
Even in the remorse sent to the court, he said, “Even if you do well a hundred times, if you do it wrong once, it’s a pity that everything is dismissed as your own fault.”
Kim Byeong-chan still claimed that it was an accidental crime rather than retaliatory murder, but the court rebuked the victim, saying, “I threatened the victim by saying, ‘What would you do if you attacked while commuting?’
The appeals court said the first instance sentence was rather light, sentenced him to 40 years in prison, which was increased by 5 more years, and kept the order to wear an electronic anklet for 15 years.

When a stalking woman reported sexual assault, Lee Seok-jun, who murdered the woman’s mother and put her brother in critical condition, appealed, saying that the punishment was too heavy when he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first trial.
