Samsung Electronics (005930)emphasized that the new Galaxy S23 series is a product of eco-friendly technology and innovation. It also set a goal to fill the percentage of recycled plastic parts used in all smartphones to 50% by 2030, and to achieve 100% by 2050.
Samsung Electronics held a press conference on the 13th and briefed on the eco-friendly value and technological innovation of the Galaxy S23 series. “The Galaxy S23 series is the first to apply recycled materials to external parts,” said Park Seong-sun, head of equipment development team (vice president) of Samsung Electronics’ MX division.
“There were many difficulties in using it for external parts because we had to consider protection from external damage and color implementation,” he said. ‘Corning Glass Victus 2’ with excellent durability was applied to the front and rear exterior glass of the Galaxy S23 series.

In addition to recycled plastic from waste fishing nets and waste water bottles used in the previous work, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is made of recycled plastic from waste PET bottles, recycled aluminum from by-products generated during the process, and recycled glass from cullet generated during the process. newly developed and applied.
This new product uses 100% recycled paper for the package box, including the sealing label. Manager Park said, “If the seal label is damaged, consumers have been misunderstood that it is a used product, so we have been using vinyl.” It was excluded this time due to a prize issue.
Regarding whether there is any risk of price increases due to the use of recycled parts compared to existing parts, he replied, “There is inevitable pressure on prices, but as a corporate social responsibility, we do not pass on price increases to consumers.”

President Park explained that Samsung Electronics is working hard to develop more types of recycled materials and apply them to products through eco-friendly material innovation and cooperation with partners. The Galaxy S23 series has obtained the Ecologo (ECOLOGO) certification of the US Environmental Certification Agency UL. It is an eco-friendly certification given by comprehensively considering the impact of the life cycle of a product from manufacturing to disposal of a smartphone to the environment and human health.
Samsung Electronics plans to gradually expand the amount of recycled plastic used in all smartphone products, including the S series as well as the M and A series, to increase the usage rate to 100% by 2050.
