The “Change Water Heater” program opens today, Tuesday, May 2, for the submission of applications to gov.gr and “Photovoltaics on the roof” by interested parties, estimated at over three million households.
Today, Tuesday 2 May, the subsidy program for the installation of solar panels with batteries on household roofs begins with a total budget of 200 million euros with resources from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
The photovoltaic subsidy reaches up to 75% for households and 60% for farmers, with a limit of 16 thousand euros for households and 10 thousand euros for farmers, while the beneficiaries of the program – according to the Ministry of the Interior – will be able to see savings in electricity bills which reach 3 thousand euros per year.

Beneficiaries: Owners, tenants, free concession
Selection: Based on criteria (income, children, disabled, etc.)
Annual Income: Up to €5,000 per family member
Subsidy: 60% (€612 – €904)
Annual Income: €5,001 – €10,000 per family member
Subsidy: 55% (€561 – €829)
Annual Income: €10,001 per family member
Subsidy: 50% (€510 – €754)
The final selection of beneficiaries will result from a combination of economic and social criteria:
- The average annual income per family member
- Families with disabled members
- Single-parent families, with at least one dependent child
- Families with dependent members
Step by step the process
When allazothermosifona.gov.gr opens to participate in the Program:
1. Download and read the Program Guide to learn about the rules and related procedures.
2. Submit a Funding Application, through the online platform.
3. If your application is approved, proceed with the issuance of your checks through the Program’s electronic platform. Checks will also be sent to you via SMS. The first check will be used to purchase a new Solar Water Heater, while the second can subsidize the cost of performing additional work to replace the old Electric Water Heater with the new Solar Water Heater (e.g. transportation costs, installation of the New Solar Water Heater, or removal of the old water heater, consumables and accessories etc.).
Withdrawal is mandatory
In order to be able to subsidize the purchase of a new solar water heater, it is mandatory to withdraw for recycling the old water heaters that are being replaced.
Water heaters to be recycled should:
- To be functional before their withdrawal, which will be confirmed after a general visual inspection.
- Before their replacement, they must be placed in the residence stated in the financing application.
- To be electric water heaters with a capacity of ≥ 40 litres.
