“I can now say that Guatemala is going to be in Paris 2024,” Kevin Cordón, following becoming Pan American champion

Guatemalan athlete Kevin Cordón was proclaimed Pan American badminton champion in an exciting final held at the Teodoro Palacios Flores. After an intense duel, Cordón managed to beat the Salvadoran Uriel Francisco Canjura, who had surprised by beating the Canadian favorite Brian Yang.
In statements following the match, Cordón expressed his gratitude for the victory and his excitement for ensure their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The first set represented a challenge for Cordón, who highlighted the importance of his determination and desire to win to overcome the following sets.
“Thank God who gave me this opportunity. It was more the desire to win that made my legs move faster”Cordón stated regarding his victory.
The Guatemalan athlete, currently ranked 40th in the world ranking, highlighted the importance of this victory on his path to Paris 2024. Although the official classification will be confirmed by the International Federation in May, Cordón expressed his confidence in ensuring his participation in his third Olympic Games.
“Thank God! It can’t be officially said yet, but this week qualification for the Olympic Games closes,” Cordón commented on his possible participation in Paris.
Finally, Cordón celebrated his Olympic qualification and the Pan American title at home, highlighting his pride in representing Guatemala in the highest sporting competition.
“Today I can already say that Kevin Cordón and Guatemala are going to be in Paris 2024 and what better way than to close the qualification like this at home in a Pan American tournament and with the gold medal,” concluded the Pan American champion.
