Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi have claimed that fans’ wishes for him to win the World Cup helped Cristiano Ronaldo break his Instagram record.
Lionel Messi scored seven goals and three assists to help Argentina win the World Cup. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo scored only one goal. Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s World Cup journey ended with the quarter-finals.
By posting a picture of lifting the World Cup, Messi became the most liked post on Instagram. The PSG star surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo who previously held the record for the most liked Instagram post by a sportsperson.
Speaking to Argentinian outlet Infobay, Messi explained how the post has racked up more than 75 million likes as the most-liked thing on Instagram.
“I didn’t look for it either, because I didn’t have the goal of making the photo I liked the most. Messi said.
“It shows what people wanted to see me with that cup. I think that photo got to people. The truth is that very few comments were read. This is very hard. I got a lot of messages and finally got blocked. “
Before Messi achieved the record, the record was held by a picture posted by Cristiano Ronaldo with Messi. The photo, posted on November 19, 2022, has received 43.2 million likes so far.
