A tuner from the outback turned the GAZ-66 into a Hummer-style SUV

Outdated car models are often perceived as useless junk. But in skillful hands they can turn into real masterpieces. This is exactly what was demonstrated by a car enthusiast from the outback who decided to convert his old GAZ-66 into a modern SUV, in the style of the American GMC Hummer.

The legendary “Shishiga” served for many years in the army and at enterprises of the former USSR. But few people know that on its basis you can create a powerful SUV with excellent cross-country ability. It was this idea that the resourceful car enthusiast brought to life.

The remodeling process was not easy. First of all, the cabin had to be completely redesigned to make it resemble the no less legendary Hummer. This required serious metal cutting and welding work. The master also lowered the engine deeper into the frame, which improved the weight distribution and stability of the car at speed.

A practical cargo platform made of fiberglass appeared behind the cabin, and the hood was decorated with a stylish lid. The chassis was also completely redone with new springs and shock absorbers. This significantly increased the vehicle’s cross-country ability. Thus, the end result was not only quite passable off-road, but also very practical.

After assembly, the SUV was painted green and equipped with a spacious 105-liter fuel tank, which made it possible to make trips longer. The 125-horsepower ZMZ-66-06 engine accelerates the car to 110 km/h. Inside there were soft seats and carpeting.

The result is an impressive SUV with excellent cross-country ability and a comfortable interior. Such a deep modernization is a real test for a car enthusiast, but the result is worth it. This unique car harmoniously combines vintage design and modern technology. It can become a source of pride for any owner. (photo: www.drive2.ru)
