Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Tunisian tennis player Anas Jaber expressed her sadness following losing the Wimbledon final to Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, on Saturday.
After winning second place at Wimbledon, Anas Jaber said: “I would like to thank Elena Rybakina, who played a great match with her team. I think she deserved to win, and I hope that next time I will win.”
Anas Jaber added: “I would not have done this and reached this place without the support. I thank my team for the support and belief in my ability.”
And she continued, “I hope that I will not face Elena once more in the final. I love this tournament, and I feel very sad, but this is tennis, there is only one winner.”
Jaber expressed her happiness for being an inspiration to current generations, saying: “I feel so happy that this happened, and I hope they hear what I say now.”
And she concluded: “I thank the fans for the wonderful and continuous support, throughout the stages of the tournament.”
Anas Jaber is the first Tunisian and Arab player to play a Grand Slam final, reaching the Wimbledon final.
Jaber is ranked second in the world among female tennis players, while Kazakh Elena Rybakina is in 17th place.
