It takes time for TV artisans to find their rhythm in a new show, but also for viewers to get used to it. For example, The world upside downhosted by Stéphan Bureau, has found its tone and style without becoming an outright competitor to Everybody talks regarding it as we thought it would happen. However, the two shows have in common that they are broadcast live, which I always find more interesting for this kind of show chairs: you never know who is going to drop one, discomfort is not erased, spontaneity either.
For this reason, I usually let a good three weeks pass before judging a novelty, but in the case of I am coming to you, Marc Labrèche’s new talk show, it won’t be necessary. We can already see the potential of the show, despite its strange two-night-a-week format. Neither daily nor weekly, it’s a quilt of all that Marc Labrèche has managed to create since The end of the world is at 7 o’clockto which I devoted a cult in the late 1990s. Even the weather segment, which was one of my favorites – impossible to forget the performances of Normand L’Amour and Pol Pelletier – is back and God knows what it will give according to the guests.
If there’s one animator who needs time to style a show, it’s Marc Labrèche, who always wants to inject some experimental theater into the genre. It took weeks for The end of the world is at 7 o’clock at the young TQS channel is starting to look like something, but it is in this confusion that the best ideas were born that Labrèche still uses today, now at Noovo.
Marc Labrèche is a unique phenomenon of Quebec television, both actor and host — entertainerhe likes to say — who made a name for himself by being Prof Bof at Club des 100 wattsRenald in The little life or Brett-Brad-Brenda-Clifford in The heart has its reasonsin addition to having animated The end of the world is at 7 o’clock, The tall blond with a sneaky show and 3600 seconds of ecstasy.
His CV is impressive, and also includes film and theater roles, including Robert Lepage.
I found it interesting that he talked regarding the difficult end of the Grand blond which he hosted while his wife was fighting cancer. He evoked the feeling of an interrupted dialogue with “his audience”, despite several broadcasts followingwards, the most recent of which was This year at Tele-Quebec. She did not have the highest ratings, but from there escaped on social networks her humorous capsules, perhaps more seen than the show itself.
He’ll always be stuck with it, because no one gets tired of his imitations which reach such a level of absurdity that they sometimes surpass the persona imitated stars. This time, it is his own family that he caricatures in Les Labreshian, with his mother, his daughter and his son-in-law in a kind of version of the poor of the Kardashian — there aren’t enough episodes yet to know where it’s going, but we keep our fingers crossed.
As for the set, the theme song of I am coming to you is an earworm, and we must thank the excellent house orchestra, particularly good and well developed. We haven’t seen all the collaborators yet, but we quickly understand the chemistry that Labrèche wants to create, which is made up of lightness and absurdity, which is welcome in a spring program, and also because there is a lot of talk-talk talk talk shows that cover the news on our TV. Long before Jean-Philippe Wauthier, Marc Labrèche imposed the atmosphere of rambling interviews and discussions. Sometimes it’s nonsense, and other times it creates an irresistible delirium.
I immediately liked the interruptions of the host who will disturb people in the audience for nothing, when he drinks the wine of a gentleman or a lady who did not see it coming, to give himself a break and think aloud, inserting silences that this type of program is usually allergic to. I realize then that what I have always preferred in his talk shows are these unpredictable nonsense, but cleverly planned by “theentertainer ».
Well, it’s starting to look like I’ve been part of “his public” for a long time, so happy that he come back to us and curious for the future. Let’s say it’s timely, because I will soon be in severe withdrawal from STAT and D’Indefensible.
