With the Ioniq 5 N, Hyundai is preparing its first high-performance electric vehicle. Most recently, tests in wintry Sweden were on the development program. The prototypes were exposed to particularly low temperatures of down to minus 30 degrees at the Hyundai Mobis Proving Ground in Arjeplog in the Arctic Circle. The engineers also benefited from the know-how from the Hyundai i20 N WRC Rallye. The Ioniq 5 N will be the first N model with all-wheel drive.
The so-called Drift Optimizer combines front and rear torque distribution, torque rate, suspension stiffness, steering effort and the electronically limited slip differential for dynamic cornering. The technology introduces even inexperienced drivers to drifting. With slip differential, the ECU monitors the wheel sensors to determine when a particular wheel needs additional torque. This improves handling when cornering and at high speeds, as well as in unfavorable driving conditions such as black ice or heavy snowfall. In addition, the Ioniq 5 N uses N torque distribution, which is optimized for different driving modes and allows the driver to choose the torque level for the front and rear wheels.
The world premiere of the Ioniq 5 N is planned for July 2023. (awm)
