Hyundai and Kia remain among the few foreign manufacturers that have retained their assets in the Russian Federation. It turns out that the sale of the plant in St. Petersburg was delayed, and the Koreans have not yet officially left the Russian market.

This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov. “We are monitoring the state of affairs at the enterprise. We do not have reliable information about the departure of Hyundai from Russia or about the sale of its St. Petersburg assets,” he said.

The Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg has been idle since March 2022. “The remuneration of employees is carried out in accordance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation – in the amount of ⅔ of the average wage,” Beglov said.

This site produced Hyundai Creta and Solaris cars, as well as Kia Rio and Rio X-Line. The company started its work in 2010. Its production capacity allows the production of 200 thousand cars per year.

In April, it was reported that the deal to sell Hyundai’s assets in Russia was close to completion. Rumors were published in the press that the Korean concern plans to sell factories in Russia to a Kazakh company. However, this story did not continue.

In the meantime, the Volkswagen plant, which also remained unclear until this spring, became the property of the state of the Russian Federation represented by FSUE NAMI, and without the possibility of repurchase.
