By maintaining the traditional grille design while minimizing air resistance, the module is expected to increase the range of electric vehicles by approximately 20 kilometers.
The new module can automatically open and close parts on the grille and hood to optimize airflow and battery cooling efficiency. This aerodynamic system is intended to not only improve the vehicle’s range, but also allows for greater design diversity.
Lidar sensor is retracted
Hyundai Mobis has also integrated a retractable lidar sensor that remains hidden in the grille when not in use to protect both the sensor and the aesthetics of the vehicle. In addition, the module includes a semi-automatic charging system that initiates the charging process when the plug is inserted, automatically retracts the charging socket and closes the charging port again when the process is complete.
It is not known when the Integrated Front Face Module from Hyundai Mobis will actually be installed in vehicles.
Earlier this year, Hyundai Mobis unveiled an electric vehicle concept with independently motorized wheels that can rotate 90 degrees to drive sideways. This E-Corner system would allow vehicles to pull into parking spaces, turn 360 degrees to change direction without reversing, and even drive diagonally to avoid obstacles. Such maneuvers would offer drivers much more flexibility in tight spaces.
