The Hyundai HB20 has undergone a new Latin NCAP safety assessment. The tested model was from the 2024 line, newly launched in Brazil. The vehicle received three stars, despite having six airbags, and tied with the rival Volkswagen Polo.

According to Latin NCAP, the new Hyundai HB20 “offers an unstable structure, poor protection for the driver’s chest in the frontal impact test and a poor performance in pedestrian protection, which prevented it from obtaining a better rating”.

The program highlighted the importance of the car’s six airbags, which became standard in all versions of the HB20. On the other hand, Latin NCAP pointed out that rival models with the same amount of air pockets managed to get five stars.

The Hyundai hatchback, produced in Brazil, received a score of 68.30% for adult occupant safety, 74.85% for children, 34.32% for protection of pedestrians and vulnerable road users and 65.12 % in security assistance.

The car has been evaluated in frontal, side, side pole, whiplash, pedestrian protection and ESC/Moose tests. Finally, Latin NCAP highlighted that the new HB20 has the potential to achieve a higher star rating.

Please note that, em 2020, o Hyundai HB20 disappointed and got zero stars in the impact test of the same program. At the time, the automaker’s entry hatch offered only two front airbags and received harsh safety criticism from the entity.
