It is not new that the technology industry has been flooding the market with products aimed at the gamer audience, so it is up to manufacturers to find ways to stand out in this very competitive environment.

Fortunately, HyperX, a brand that belongs to the HP group, is one of the most respected when it comes to gamer peripherals, but will the new HyperX Cloud III, the brand’s new headset that recently hit the Brazilian market, be able to surpass its predecessor and deliver good performance and attractive improvements?

TudoCelular had the chance to test the device, which allows us to answer this and other questions regarding it.

construction and design

Keeping much of the look of the brand’s latest devices, even being very similar to the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless, the new HyperX Cloud III arrives as an evolution of its predecessor, both in terms of comfort and in terms of usability.

Right off the bat, the biggest novelty is the headband, which now features more discreet sewing and is equipped with the brand’s famous Memory Foam, foams that memorize the shape of your head to fit better and guarantee more comfort for the user.

The same foams can also be found in the ear shells, which are even slightly thicker compared to the previous model, as a way to make them more durable.

As for the foam coating, the brand continues to bet on a synthetic material that imitates leather. In our tests, it was not possible to identify the durability of the coating, but it is worth mentioning that they are not immune to the “peeling” effect, which happens in the vast majority of devices of this type, but only time will tell if it resists well.

Meanwhile, the shells are secured by the traditional red metallic structure (which also serves to adjust the height of the headband), which aims to guarantee the modernity of the design and prolonged durability. It is worth noting that the shells have a kind of hinge on the sides in order to adjust their angle to increase comfort in use.

Another novelty in this “facelift” of the device are the control buttons, which are now no longer positioned on the USB dongle, which also served as an emulation card for 7.1 audio (we’ll talk regarding this later), and have now been moved to the sides of the shells. Everything is very simplified, having the volume scroll on the right side and the mute/unmute button on the left side.

Speaking of the microphone, despite remaining a flexible rod that can be removed at any time, the component also has some important improvements. The most notable change is the filter that sits above the microphone, which is no longer a felt that might be attached by the user to an integrated metal mesh pop filter, which helps to reduce external noise when communicating, in addition to avoiding that “breathing” effect that was captured when talking with the previous filter.

Even though LED lights are synonymous with gaming devices, the Cloud III is pretty modest in that regard, largely because it’s a mid-end device, which means it should cost less to build, but beyond that, the lack of too much lighting also helps to lessen the weight of the item. The only visible LED is the one that integrates the detachable microphone, which lights up red if the microphone is muted.

In addition, everything else adopts the latest standards of the brand: including the wire that is attached to the left shell, which maintains the braided nylon finish in black and red. The same finish is also found on the USB dongle.

Inside the box, users will find the device, the USB-C dongle, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, detachable microphone, brand product information and certifications.

Improvements and usability

According to the brand, the big challenge here was to understand the features most loved by Cloud II users, described as the bestseller, and to continue this success.

With that said, the improvements in Cloud III are one-off but effective. In addition to the build and design improvements we’ve highlighted above, the device is also enhanced by the new ultra-clear 10 mm detachable microphone with noise cancellation, which allows for clearer communication, even in the noisiest environments.

As for the reproduction part, the device arrives with very interesting news, especially with regard to 3D spatial audio. Unlike its predecessor, which had a USB card to emulate this feature, the new Cloud III now features software emulation via DTS® Headphone:X®1 Spatial Audio, with all devices coming with a lifetime license for the DTS system. , which eliminates the need for the previous model’s USB dongle.

Even if the sound quality with the DTS feature activated is really impressive, whether playing games or playing videos or music, the device also works well in a more “pure” way, thanks to its 53mm drivers, which have been redesigned to improve the sound quality.

Of course, it is worth saying that we are talking regarding a mid-end device, which means that its sound stage is not as powerful when compared to more bulky headsets, but still, it delivers very good quality.

For those who like to experiment more with sound control, the HyperX NGENUITY software also offers Equalization options, where it is possible to choose between a preset that is already programmed in the software or program a customized option.

The fact that the USB dongle has been removed makes using the device more comfortable, in addition to the fact that this also extends its durability, considering that it is one less physical component to wear out.

During our test, it was possible to attest that the Cloud III is really comfortable, which even makes you forget that you are using it at times.

The cord can be a constraint for some people, however, the equipment comes equipped with a good length to ensure comfortable use without being too much to make your desk cluttered.

When talking regarding the foam, the version with synthetic coating can be a little uncomfortable on very hot days, something that the version covered in fabric has a certain advantage, but on the other hand, it isolates the sound better, making the perception of external audio be practically zero.

Speaking of fabric-covered foams, unlike the Cloud II, the Cloud III does not have an additional pair of fabric foams, being accompanied only by the foams with synthetic leather. However, they are still easy to replace, which allows for greater longevity of the device if the original ones start to wear out.

Finally, as for connectivity, we can say that Cloud III is very versatile and uncomplicated, allowing it to easily integrate with PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Mac and mobile devices.

But what regarding it, is it worth it?

Coming to the Brazilian market with a suggested price of R$ 599.99, the new HyperX Cloud III brings a very honest package of services, delivering a competent device that promises to live up to the success of its predecessor.

Those coming from a simpler device, or looking to upgrade to the new model, will certainly be satisfied.

Despite being simple and without much pretense, this headset fulfills what it promises, being a great way to complement the gamer setup or for everyday use.
