An inspection carried out by the Reunion Regional Health Agency had brought to light numerous breaches of hygiene and sterilization rules in the dental practice located at the Port, Résidence Bougainville – 7 boulevard de Verdun. This situation had led the ARS to suspend the three dental surgeons concerned under the protection of public health.
After on-site inspection, it is noted that the ARS prescriptions have been implemented, thus allowing the resumption of activity. The suspensions are lifted.
Context and actions implemented
Following the inspection carried out in a dental office in the Port, the ARS La Réunion suspended the three dental surgeons concerned on Tuesday June 6, 2023 as a precaution and to protect patient safety. The latter might no longer continue their activity as long as they did not implement the corrective measures to comply with the rules of hygiene and safety of care.
The three surgeons have since implemented the prescriptions of the ARS. An on-site check revealed the return to compliance with health and safety rules, thus enabling the suspension to be lifted.
The three dental surgeons can therefore resume their activity.
Information and recommendations to the patients concerned
The ARS has brought together a regional committee of experts made up of representatives of the medical and dental professions and specialists in healthcare hygiene and infectiology.
This committee concluded that the patients who received care in this dental office were exposed to low risks of contamination by the hepatitis B and C viruses and HIV. It was decided to inform patients of the last 12 years and to advise them to consult their general practitioner to receive appropriate advice and to be prescribed screening for these conditions.
Health Insurance was able to provide individual information by mail to patients who have attended this office over the past two and a half years.
The information of patients who have come previously must be carried out by the three dental surgeons, under the control of the ARS.
