Lotte Chemical has built a pilot facility for the commercialization of hydrogen tanks, one of the key components of hydrogen electric vehicles.
Lotte Chemical announced on the 7th that it installed a pilot facility of 1,488 square meters on the site of Lotte Aluminum’s Incheon plant and held a completion ceremony on the 6th. This facility can produce 15,000 50L-class medium-sized hydrogen tanks per year. The company explained that hydrogen tanks can be mass-produced much more efficiently by applying the ‘dry winding’ manufacturing technology developed by Lotte Chemical since 2017.
Hydrogen tanks used in hydrogen electric vehicles and drones must be able to withstand extremely high pressures of regarding 700 bar. Lotte Chemical recently received UN European Economic Commission certification for this product. “We will provide safe and optimized solutions for various hydrogen storage containers of our customers,” said Kim Gyo-hyun, head of the chemical group of Lotte Group.
