More than 37,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without power Wednesday morning.
The Valero refinery in Saint-Romuald was also there. As a preventive measure, all production units were shut down at the Jean-Gaulin refinery, located on chemin des Îles.
Following the restoration of electrical power, the refinery is deploying a plan to restart the production units, which all had to be shut down due to the outage.
The areas affected were Saint-Nicolas, Saint-Romuald and downtown Lévis. The interruption lasted regarding thirty minutes.
Hydro-Quebec spokeswoman Annie Beaudin said the outage was caused by a break in an underground cable. “It’s a contractor who hooked an underground cable during a digging operation, near Lévis,” she says.
By early Wednesday evening, most residents of Lévis had regained power.
On the refinery side, a plan was deployed, following the restoration of electrical power, to restart the production units while the situation should return to normal within the next 48 to 72 hours.
