Hyderabad Students Celebrate Government’s Increased Diet and Cosmetic Charges

Hyderabad: In a vibrant and festive atmosphere, students residing in welfare hostels celebrated what they affectionately termed a “Diwali gift,” following the government’s much-anticipated announcement to boost their diet and cosmetic allowances. The news brought immense joy, as students expressed their gratitude for the financial support aimed at enhancing their daily lives.

Alugu Varshini, the Secretary of TSWREIS, extended heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on behalf of the entire community. She remarked, “This enhancement will significantly improve the health and well-being of our students and will enable us to uphold higher standards in our institutions,” emphasizing the positive impact such changes will have on nurturing future leaders.

In a show of solidarity, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar joined the jubilant celebration at the government BC Residential School located in Sharmanagar, Karimnagar. He actively participated in the Diwali festivities by cutting a cake and engaging warmly with the hostellers, showcasing the government’s commitment to their welfare.

During his remarks, Prabhakar highlighted the Congress government’s unwavering dedication to addressing students’ needs, acknowledging the economic challenges posed by inflation which had made essential items increasingly expensive. He pointed out that the BRS administration had neglected to revise these crucial charges for several years, further emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

“Ours is a people’s government, and we’re committed to the welfare of our students,” he said, reinforcing the Congress party’s promise to improve educational facilities and ensure a supportive environment for all learners.

Prabhakar outlined several pressing challenges the Congress government is tackling. He mentioned that within Telangana, only 320 out of 1,020 residential school buildings were situated in government-owned premises, indicating a need for increased investment in educational infrastructure.

“The government recently cleared 50 per cent of the pending rent payments by releasing Rs 100 crore, addressing delays that had spanned over 50 months,” he revealed, indicating a proactive approach to resolve long-standing financial issues. He also mentioned that the Congress administration has made it a priority to ensure salaries for government employees are disbursed on the first of every month, showcasing their commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, Minister Dr. Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) met with the Chief Minister to express her gratitude for the revised diet and cosmetic allowances. She asserted that this change was long overdue, as welfare and Gurukul students had faced neglect for far too long—seven and sixteen years, respectively. “For the first time, welfare and Gurukul students are seeing a meaningful increase in diet and cosmetic charges,” she declared, recognition of the long-ignored needs of these students.

“This decision would not only ensure nutritious meals for students but also improve their quality of life by covering necessary hygiene products,” she elaborated, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the support being provided. The minister also addressed the enduring inadequacies left unaddressed by the previous BRS government, stating that for a decade, they had failed to enhance basic amenities, including the construction of toilets and other essential infrastructure within schools.

The government’s plans to ‍further enhance student ⁣welfare⁢ initiatives in the coming months, aiming to create a conducive environment for learning and development.
