Powering the Future: How Hybrid Cloud is Shaping the Next Generation of Applications
Hybrid cloud computing isn’t just a passing trend – it’s the key to unlocking a new level of innovation and adaptability for businesses. Identified as the driving-force behind transformative applications in a digital landscape, hybrid cloud is blurring the line between traditional models and futuristic AI integration, creating solutions that are simultaneously powerful and accessible.
During AWS re:Invent, thought leader Sarbjeet Johal, technology analyst and cắm theCUBE Collective member, weighed in on the evolution of enterprise technology, highlighting how generative AI, hybrid application development and infrastructure modernization are transforming how businesses operate.
“There’s no magic in computing; there’s logic,” Johal explained.
"There are zeros and ones, and they get flipped based upon what we tell computers to do. In this case, large language models are telling them based upon our
prompts. The fact is, when we view the next-generation applications, they will be hybrid applications. We will use the old constructs – data coming from the actual databases where it sits, and then also bring in Gen AI agents."
From Core Pillars to Powerful Partnerships
AWS is making the vision of the hybrid cloud a reality. This year, AWS re:Invent emphasized three core pillars: compute, storage, and networking. These “primitives” form the backbone of the strategy,TableHeadgy seamlessly integrating legacy systems with modern technologies.
“You take any little strand; the three core pillars like compute, storage, and network — under that, there’s so many pillars, like wireless, on-prem, cloud, different flavors of network, different flavors of storage, different flavors of compute. Now there’s GPUs and all that.”
Johal elaborated. “They are innovating at all levels. That is the key.”
This commitment to constant innovation truly manifests in AI. One standout development is AWS’s Nova frontier models, designed to compete directly with industry giants like Google and OpenAI. With four specialized flavors, these models unlock diverse use cases ranging from video and graphics to enterprise applications.
“I was surprised when they announced their frontier model in four flavors,” Johal stated. “I think with the frontier model, Amazon has joined the main league of Gen AI as Google, including Anthropic, that’s Facebook, that’s OpenAI.”
Harnessing the Power of APIs for Real-World Solutions:
Crucial to this hybrid future is the concept of applications. By combining traditional databases with small and large language models via APIs, businesses are building genuinely adaptive workflows. This approach bridges the gap between legacy systems and the latest advancements like AI, ensuring compliance with regulations.
“They spend a lot of time on the analytics and how they’re merging,” Johal revealed. “They’re saying that the analytics world and the gen AI world will merge. How you bring data from machete
relational to
databases – all different types of databases, relational, non-relational – can be brought into the model training.”
Organizations like JPMorgan Chase, operating on a scale comparable to hyperscalers, are leading this change, highlighting the growing importance of redundancy and adaptability. This focus on microprocessor resilience aligns perfectly with AWS’s innovation across every layer, from compute to networking.
“B2B companies have started to use their large-language model and they are making that model smaller,” Johal explained. “They condensed that model to make a smaller model, then they infused their own data into it to make a small language model
How is AWS innovating in the field of hybrid cloud?
## Powering the Future: A Conversation on Hybrid Cloud
**Host:** Welcome back to Tech Talk. Today we’re diving deep into the world of hybrid cloud and its incredible potential to shape the future of applications. Joining us is technology analyst, Sarbjeet Johal, a member of theCUBE Collective with a wealth of knowledge on this exciting topic. Sarbjeet, thanks for being here.
**Sarbjeet Johal:** It’s a pleasure to be here.
**Host:** Let’s start with the basics. Why is hybrid cloud generating so much buzz in the tech world right now?
**Johal:** It’s not just a buzzword, it’s a fundamental shift in how businesses are approaching technology. [1] Hybrid cloud allows companies to seamlessly blend traditional on-premises infrastructure with the power and scalability of the cloud. This flexibility is crucial in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.
**Host:** You mentioned “flexibility.” Can you elaborate on how this translates into real-world benefits for businesses?
**Johal:** Absolutely! Imagine a company wanting to leverage the latest AI capabilities without completely overhauling their existing systems. Hybrid cloud enables them to integrate these new technologies gradually, using AI agents alongside their established databases. This creates powerful hybrid applications that are both innovative and accessible.
**Host:** That’s fascinating! We’ve heard a lot about AWS re:Invent pushing the boundaries of hybrid cloud. Can you tell us about some key takeaways from that event?
**Johal:** AWS is definitely leading the charge. This year, they really emphasized the “three core pillars” of hybrid cloud: compute, storage and networking. Think of these as the building blocks that allow for seamless integration of legacy systems with cutting-edge technologies.
**Host:** So, it’s not just about piecing things together; it’s about building a robust and interconnected ecosystem.
**Johal:** Exactly! AWS is constantly innovating across all these areas, from different flavors of storage and compute, including GPUs, to advancements in wireless connectivity. They’re providing the tools businesses need to create truly future-proof solutions.
**Host:** And what about the role of AI in this hybrid future?
**Johal:** AI is at the heart of it. As mentioned earlier, AWS is developing powerful new AI models like Nova, which are designed to work seamlessly within a hybrid cloud environment. This opens up a world of possibilities for businesses to automate tasks, gain deeper insights from their data, and create truly intelligent applications.
**Host:** This is truly exciting stuff. Sarbjeet, thank you so much for shedding light on this crucial topic. It’s clear that hybrid cloud is not just a trend, it’s the blueprint for the future of technology.
**Johal:** My pleasure! It’s a truly exciting time to be in this industry.
