Mr. Hwang’s older brother will appear as a witness in the trial of his sister-in-law, who was put on trial on charges of distributing and threatening a video of former national soccer team player Hwang Ui-jo (32, Alanyaspor), who is accused of illegal filming.

According to the court on the 28th, the 31st Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Park Jun-seok) will hold the fourth trial of sister-in-law A, who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (threats of retaliation, etc.), etc. this followingnoon.

On this day, Mr. A’s spouse and Mr. Hwang’s older brother are scheduled to appear as witnesses. During the investigation, it was reported that Mr. A and his wife had conflicting statements regarding whether they knew Hwang’s cell phone password, and the prosecution requested her older brother as a witness to prove this.

Initially, during the trial, Mr. A’s side continued to argue that Mr. A was falsely accused of crimes due to the intervention of a third party, such as hacking of Internet routers and social networking (SNS) accounts.

However, on the 20th, it was reported that Mr. A suddenly submitted a handwritten statement of remorse to the court admitting the charges.

In his statement of remorse, Mr. A is said to have admitted the charges, saying, “I committed the crime to scold my brother-in-law (Hwang Ui-jo), who did not acknowledge the devotion of his brother and his wife, and to make him rely on us once more.”

As Mr. A may change his mind to admitting the crime and agree to evidence that he had disagreed with, there is a possibility that his brother’s witness examination will not proceed. Also, the possibility that the trial will be concluded as early as this day cannot be ruled out.

In June of last year, Mr. A claimed to be Mr. Hwang’s former lover and shared photos and sex videos of Ms. Hwang and other women on social media, or claimed that Mr. Hwang had relationships with multiple women and caused harm to them. He was charged with making threats.

When the video was distributed, Mr. Hwang sued Mr. A on charges of blackmail and other charges, and during the subsequent investigation, it was revealed that Mr. A was his sister-in-law. It is reported that Mr. A has been acting as Hwang’s manager.

The prosecution took over the case from the police in November of the same year and conducted a supplementary investigation. As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A distributed private videos and threatened to withdraw the complaint. The distributed video has been requested to be deleted by the Seoul Digital Sex Crime Safety Support Center.

The police are currently investigating Mr. Hwang’s allegations of illegal filming. During the police investigation, Hwang reportedly admitted to filming, but maintained that it was not illegal.
