Soccer player Hwang Ui-jo, who was booked on charges of illegal filming, was additionally booked on charges of secondary harm to the victim.
At a regular press conference on the 15th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced, “Hwang Ui-jo and one lawyer from the law firm in charge have been booked on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.”
In a statement issued in November of last year, the law firm representing Hwang Ui-jo claimed that there was an “agreement” regarding the suspicion of illegal filming and stated, “The other woman is a public figure who works in broadcasting and is even married.”
This is an area where personal information that can identify the victim may be disclosed without permission, which can lead to secondary harm.
Regarding the allegations of illegal filming, he explained, “We will conduct an additional investigation privately on the 12th, and if necessary, we are considering conducting another investigation privately.”
It was reported that during the investigation on the 12th, Hwang Ui-jo reiterated his previous position that it was not illegal filming because the victim did not express her refusal even though she was aware of the filming.
In relation to this, the victim’s side countered, saying, “If prior consent had been sought, there should have been a conversation from which this fact might be inferred, but it is difficult to say that the person consented to the filming of the video simply because there was an intimate conversation.”
