Sunwoo Hwang won the men’s 200m freestyle swimming final held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in Zhejiang Province, China yesterday (27th) with a time of 1 minute 44.40 seconds, a new Korean record and a new competition record.
Hwang Sun-woo, who previously won a gold medal with his teammates in the men’s 800m relay, a team event, won two gold medals in the competition.
It has been 13 years since Park Tae-hwan in 2010 that a Korean athlete won more than two gold medals in a single Asian Games.
Lee Ho-jun, who also competed, took third place with a time of 1 minute 45.56 seconds, making Korean swimming produce two medalists in a single event at the Asian Games for the first time in 21 years.
Eunji Lee also took third place in the 200m and 100m backstroke, setting a record of two backstroke medals 37 years after Choi Yunhee.
