First win following being discharged last November… “A challenge on the American stage in the fall”
Hwang Joong-gon (30), who won the third championship in his career following overtime at the Asianed CC Busan Open on the Korean Tour (KPGA) Asianed Country Club (par 72) held at Busan Asiad Country Club (par 72) on the 3rd, was unable to speak for a while as he shed tears during the interview.
Hwang Jung-gon said, “I’m getting married.
The marriage is registered this month and the wedding is held in December.
A child will be born in September.”
The tears were due to gratitude to the soon-to-be-born child and the bride-to-be who silently stood by her side.
He confessed, “I had a great desire to win,” even because of his girlfriend who will soon marry his child.
“That’s why this win is even more thrilling,” he said, holding the broadcast microphone and saying, “I love you.
I’ll do well,” he emphasized once once more, expressing his gratitude to the bride-to-be.
Hwang Jung-gon enlisted as a social worker in 2020 and was discharged last November.
He won just seven months following returning to the field.
After working at the tax office, he did not miss out on weight training following work, and on weekends he visited the golf course and played rounds to maintain his shot and sense of play.
After being discharged, he said, “I practiced dying” for seven weeks in the United States.
He said, “After I was discharged, my mind became more relaxed,” he said.
On that day, he went to the final round with three strokes left, but he was nearly defeated by Kwon Oh-sang (27) in a fierce pursuit.
As he walked in place with two birdies and two bogeys until the 17th hole, he gave the lead by one stroke to Kwon Oh-sang, who cut four strokes, but was revived with a birdie on the 18th hole (par 4) and won the championship following overtime.
He said, “I was going to play aggressively today, but the play didn’t go as planned in the beginning because I was nervous.
He said, “I was taken aback by the way the ball went in a direction I wouldn’t normally make a shot mistake.”
He explained, “Fortunately, in the second half, my senses gradually improved and I was able to play confidently in overtime.”
Hwang Jung-gon, who won two out of three wins with this win in Busan and Gyeongnam, said, “When I come to this area, the flow improves.
Even things that did not go well will be restored when you come here.
Apparently, the fans’ support is passionate, so I feel excited and enjoy the game without realizing it.”
Hwang Jung-gon, who has won 4 in Japan and 3 wins in Korea so far,’s next goal is to win 2 of the season.
“I haven’t won a championship twice in a year.
He said, “I want to do it this year,” he said, “I plan to challenge the American stage this fall.”
