Coming from the qualifications, Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 108) was stopped in the round of 16 of the ATP 250 tournament in Bastad. The Zurich native lost 7-5 6-2 to Serbian Laslo Djere (ATP 53) on Thursday.
Fallen by Fabio Fognini (ATP 64) in the last qualifying round then by Holger Rune (ATP 28) in the first round of the main draw, Marc-Andrea Hüsler did not sign a third consecutive feat on Swedish clay. The left-hander had his chance, however, as he led 2-1 service to follow in the second set.
But Laslo Djere was able to tighten his guard to avoid any unpleasant surprises, winning the last five games of the match by signing three breaks in the process. The Serb had already been more effective in the money time of the first set, when Marc-Andrea Hüsler came back from 2-4 to 4-4.
Aged 26, Marc-Andrea Hüsler therefore remains in a quarter-final disputed on the front of the ATP Tour, in 2020 in Kitzbühel where he had even climbed into the last four. His performances in recent weeks will nevertheless allow him to enter the top 100 of the ATP rankings for the first time next Monday.
