Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the state today due to cyclone Asani. The rain will continue till Friday.
Yellow alert was declared in Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts yesterday. These districts received widespread rainfall. A strong wind was blowing. Central and southern Kerala is likely to receive more rains today. There may be wind. Fishing has been banned in the Bay of Bengal due to the influence of ‘Asani’. The Central Meteorological Department has warned fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal until further notice.
At the same time, ‘Asani’, which is currently a severe cyclone, is expected to intensify and weaken in the coming days. After accelerating to a speed of 120 kmph near the northern Andhra-Odisha coast, it is expected to weaken and turn north tonight. Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will receive showers. People from 4 coastal districts of Odisha will be relocated.
