The technical director Diego Martínez, recently separated from Tigre, agreed this Saturday his arrival for a year at Huracán, following responding positively to the proposal presented by the leadership in a meeting between the parties.

Martínez will assume command of the team next Monday, according to sources from the institution told Télam, before the official communication of his hiring.

Even this Sunday, the coach might witness the match with Independiente in Avellaneda, where the “Globo” will be led on an interim basis by the duo Claudio Cabrera-Marcelo Broggi.

Martínez, 44, arrives to replace Sebastián Battaglia with the same coaching staff that he had at the “Matador” in Victoria, where he entered history with promotion to the First Division (2021) and the final reached in the Cup of the 2022 League.

His origins as DT were in promotion football. He had experiences in Ituzaingó, Cañuelas, Comunicaciones and Midland until he reached Estudiantes de Buenos Aires, with which he rose from Metropolitan B and advanced to the semifinals of the 2019 Argentine Cup.

The first experience in the top flight was with Godoy Cruz and it lasted just 9 games (two draws, seven losses) in 2020.

Martínez will take on a complex challenge in Huracán, beset by relegation through the Annual Table.

There are 20 commitments left to define the two relegations from the Professional League: six from the current tournament and 14 from the regular phase of the League Cup, which will be played in the second half.

The last of the accumulated table will leave the maximum division. It is currently Arsenal (17 points) but the Viaducto team would lose the category as the worst average, so the other drop would correspond to the penultimate in the annual classification.

Banfield (18), Huracán (19), Independiente (21), Vélez Sarsfield (21), Instituto de Córdoba (22) and Unión de Santa Fe (23) are especially involved in this dispute.

The “Globo” is going through difficult days: the elimination of the Copa Sudamericana put an end to the cycle of Sebastián Battaglia (four draws, five losses) and uncovered an internal one in the squad.

The defender Fernando Tobio, one of the references, accused his teammates – without giving names – of withdrawing from the matches “because of a little pain” and highlighted the courage of the young people who put their faces in Paraguay, where the team said goodbye to the continental tournament following falling with Guaraní.

Huracán has not won since April 28 when they beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó. His last away victory occurred once morest Defensa y Justicia (4-2), on January 27, on the first date of the League, still under Diego Dabove.
