“Squid Game” star Lee Jong-jae shows off his technical muscles in “Hunt”, which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in, which is a thrilling spy story.
This film will be shown for the first time during the Cannes Film Festival in the Out-of-Competition Films section. The events of the film are fast and full of excitement, as it revolves around two South Korean intelligence men tasked with exposing a North Korean intelligence member, and the two parties end up exchanging an investigation together.
Lee, 49, stars as one of the two spies opposite his old friend and business partner Jung Woo Sung.
He said that his career, which lasted nearly three decades, was of great help to him when he took the directing step. He added, “I’ve acted in many different kinds of films, and I can remember the scenes that I portrayed as an actor that were difficult to film or did not turn out as I expected.”
“I tried to remember those scenes when I was writing the script to make sure I might be able to execute them as much as possible when directing,” he continued. And he added, “I am very grateful that I made my directorial debut during this renaissance of Korean culture… I hope to meet international audiences and fans in other films.”
When asked regarding what he liked regarding this particular movie, in which he wrote, produced, directed and acted, he did not hesitate to respond to me by saying: “Of course acting. I’m an actor. It’s my identity. So, I liked acting more.”
