The ratification of Sweden’s NATO accession has been in parliament since July 2022. “It is not certain that we have to approve this application,” Kövér of the Fidesz party told HirTV. His comments follow a letter from the Hungarian foreign minister to his Swedish counterpart last week in which he reiterated his concerns regarding what he called “biased and unfair” accusations once morest the Hungarian government by some Swedish politicians. Swedish politicians had criticized Hungary’s regression in democracy and the rule of law, which are also the subject of EU infringement proceedings.
Last year, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Sweden and Finland submitted an application for NATO membership, which was quickly ratified by most alliance members.
