Hungary qualified for Euro 2024. They achieved this by snatching a 2-2 draw in the final moments once morest Bulgaria in Sofia.
The Hungarians, for whom one point was enough to qualify for the Euro which will take place in Germany in June 2024, scored the equalizing goal in the 97th minute. They will participate in their third continental meeting in a row.
Thanks to this point obtained in a stadium behind closed doors and while violent clashes took place between Bulgarian supporters and the police outside the enclosure, Hungary became the ninth team qualified for Euro 2024. The men of Italian coach Marco Rossi are assured, with 15 points, of finishing in one of the first two places in Group G, even before the last day.
The Hungarians were however afraid: following opening the scoring by Adam (10th), they were joined by the Bulgarians thanks to Dedev (24th) then overtaken by a penalty from Despodov (79th). But at the end of added time, unfortunate Bulgaria defender Petkov headed a free kick into his own goal, giving his opponents a ticket to Germany.
Slovakia also passes
Thanks to an easy victory (4-2) once morest Iceland in Bratislava, Slovakia qualified for Euro 2024 football by securing 2nd place in Group J. It is the 11th team to obtain its ticket for the tournament.
The Slovaks, however, saw the Icelanders open the scoring through Oskarsson (17th) but they then rolled on, scoring four goals in 25 minutes. They will participate in their third consecutive continental meeting. A draw was enough for them before the match, but they were not satisfied with it.
