Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will come to say goodbye to former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, despite the fact that European politicians stopped visiting Russia following the start of a special operation in Ukraine. This was told by the representative of the Hungarian government Zoltan Kovacs.

“Prime Minister Orban will visit Moscow this morning to pay tribute to the late Mikhail Gorbachev,” Kovacs tweeted (blocked in Russia). Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti that they do not know what else Orban plans to do in Moscow. “As far as we know, he will fly only to say goodbye to Gorbachev,” Peskov said.

Farewell to Gorbachev takes place on September 3 at the House of Unions in Moscow. The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, reports RT. Also present was the singer Alla Pugacheva. Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said goodbye to the former president of the USSR. The funeral will take place at the Novodevichy Cemetery. Gorbachev died from 30 to 31 August. The politician died following a long illness at the age of 92.

EU countries have imposed sanctions once morest the Russian Federation because of the special operation in Ukraine, which began on February 24. After that, European leaders stopped coming to Russia.
