Szijjarto explained in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Washington that Trump may be able to convince the parties to the conflict of the need to start negotiations.
“I think it would take a very strong outside influence to get the two sides to at least start negotiations, and who would be able to do that in the coming period? Only former President Trump, if he is re-elected,” he added.
He continued: “We believe that peace will be given a chance if Trump wins the elections, and we see in this case an opportunity to establish good relations between the United States and Hungary.”
In a statement to RT earlier, Szijjarto stressed that a way out of the Ukrainian crisis is not possible without dialogue.
It is worth noting that the Hungarian Prime Minister held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday in the Kremlin that lasted more than two and a half hours.
On July 2, Orban visited Kyiv, where he called on the leader of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, to agree to a ceasefire.
The Hungarian government has repeatedly declared that the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is possible only with the participation of the United States and the European Union, where Washington should play the leading role, as it provides essential military and financial support to Kiev.
At the same time, the Hungarian representatives noted that they do not expect this goal to be achieved by the current US administration led by Joe Biden, as it supports the continuation of military operations in Ukraine.
