Hundreds of people pay their respects to Rose, who was killed on Tuesday

In Rambervillers, on Saturday, 600 people marched dressed in pink to pay tribute to the 5-year-old girl. The march ended in front of the family’s home, with applause.

In France, regarding 600 people took part, on Saturday, in the streets of Rambervillers, in a march in tribute to Rose, a 5-year-old girl killed on Tuesday. In front of the family’s house, dozens of flowers were placed, as well as large portraits of the little girl. The little girl’s entourage wore a T-shirt bearing her likeness, her mother was dressed in black.

Behind members of Rose’s extended family, many locals of all ages took their places in the motorcade. Most were adorned with a pink garment or accessory, in accordance with the instructions that had been circulated. The procession first passed, in silence, in front of the apartment where Rose had been found dead on Tuesday by the municipal police, undressed, in a plastic bag.

“I saw her every day”

“It was a little girl that I knew very well, she lived in my neighborhood, I saw her every day,” testified Angélique Maronneau, 47, with tears in her eyes. “It was very very hard, and it still is, we are marked. She was a smiling little girl, who went towards people. There is tension, there is anger, we ask ourselves questions, ”she added, referring to the course of the suspect, arrested on Tuesday evening.

The latter, aged 15, had been placed in a closed educational center for twelve months, the maximum possible duration, as part of another legal procedure where he was indicted for kidnapping, rape and sexual assault on a minor. He had returned to Rambervillers in February, at the end of his placement, and was being monitored by the judicial protection of youth.

«Justice pour Rose»

Flower petals were scattered along the way. Some participants chanted the victim’s first name or demanded “Justice for Rose”. The march ended with applause, in front of the family’s home. “I didn’t know this little girl’s family, but it’s important to be here with them, with all those who are suffering today,” explained Bénédicte Margolt, 62, a Red Cross volunteer from ‘Épinal, dressed in pink.

Family members spoke very briefly following the march. “We thank you for sharing this pain with us,” said one of the girl’s uncles.
