The “National March for a New Hungary”, which led through downtown Budapest, ended on Kossuth Square in front of Parliament. The square and the surrounding streets were full of people and a sea of Hungarian flags.
In his speech on Kossuth Square, the 43-year-old called out to those gathered: “Remember the date April 6, 2024, because the change has begun, nothing will be the same anymore.” The Hungarian nation has sent a message to the corrupt power apparatus that this is enough and no further, said Magyar.
Magyar stated that the entire power elite had panicked in view of the people’s behavior and announced: “We will retake our homeland step by step.” At the same time, he announced the founding of the “Be the Change” association and referred to the upcoming founding of his party. This will be the first nail in the coffin of the power apparatus. After the party’s announcement, he expects suggestions for possible candidates for the European elections who will represent the party in Brussels and Strasburg.
He will travel to Hungary in the next two months to bring the message of true change to the smallest village. Magyar called on state media heads to stop lying regarding him and his movement and give him the opportunity to report live on his future plans. He once once more emphasized the importance of a teaching system that ensures equal development opportunities for all children.
Today was the opposition politician’s third demonstration once morest Orbán and his government, which achieved a record number of participants. According to opinion research institutes, Magyar might get up to 20 percent of the vote with his new party. So far, however, he has not been able to weaken the right-wing national government party Fidesz, but rather the opposition parties. The latter are attacking Magyar more and more massively.
The lawyer is the ex-husband of Orbán’s former Justice Minister Judit Varga, who had to resign because of a pedophilia scandal. Magyar recently released a tape recording accusing members of the Orbán government of corruption. Magyar and his then-wife can be heard in the recording. This involves statements by Varga that government members worked to cover up cases of corruption by encouraging the disappearance of evidence from court files.
Magyar worked for a long time as an official within Orbán’s ruling party, Fidesz, until he began to massively attack Orbán and his government. Political observers pointed out that Magyar was the first person from Orbán’s inner circle to launch an open attack. The power of Magyar to mobilize the masses might pose a real threat to Orbán and Fidesz.
