Tens of thousands of people are expected to participate in the 212 Reunion, which will be held at the National Monument (Monas) starting Monday (2/12) early morning. All necessary permits for the event have been secured from relevant authorities.
"The Grand 212 Reunion will be held at Monas on Monday, December 2nd, 2024, beginning at 2:00 – 08:00 WIB. We invite 212 alumni and sympathizers, especially Muslims and the Indonesian people, to join us at this momentous event," Ahmad Shobri Lubis, Chief Executive of the 212 Reunion, announced in a statement.
3 Monas Doors Open for Participants
To accommodate the anticipated large crowd, three access points
at Monas, namely, Gambir, Istiqlal, and Horse Statue, will be opened starting at approximately 00:30 WIB on Monday (2/12). Vehicle parking has been arranged at IRTI, Lapangan Banteng, and Kemayoran. The Transportation Department will provide free shuttle buses to transport participants from these parking areas to Monas.
“Every participant must maintain order and security when arriving, during the event, and returning to their respective locations," emphasized Shobri.
Secretary of Majlis Syuro PA 212, Slamet Maarif, estimated around tens of thousands of people would attend the event.
He confirmed that official invitations were sent to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, MUI General Chair Anwar Iskandar, and leaders of mass organizations. Rizieq Shihab was also expected to lead the reunion. "He has been in Jakarta since yesterday."
**Tracing Back to 2016: A Powerful Reminder
Known as Action 212, this demonstration initially took place in December 2016, preceding the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election.
The event stemmed from demonstrations aimed at former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) regarding his statement concerning the Koran, specifically Verse 51 of Al-Maidah. The action was spearheaded by the GNPF MUI, with support from FPI and other Islamic mass organizations.
This event has been held periodically, carrying forward the legacy and message of the original gathering.
What is the significance of the early morning timing for the 212 Reunion?
