HUNDREDS of Lebanese residents fled their home areas south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon on Tuesday (1/10) after reports that Israel would launch a ground operation in the area.
Anadolu journalists said the main roads were packed with civilians fleeing after the Israeli military declared the area south of the Litani River a military zone.
Previously the Israeli military had ordered Lebanese civilians to avoid south of the Litani River until further notice.
The warning came following the military’s statement regarding limited and targeted ground operations in southern Lebanon.
Since September 23, Israel has launched massive airstrikes across Lebanon under the pretext of targeting Hezbollah, killing more than 1,057 people and wounding 2,950 others, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
The attack killed a number of top Hezbollah leaders, including their leader Hassan Nasrallah. Hezbollah and Israel have been involved in a cross-border war since Israel began its offensive on Gaza, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last October.
The international community has warned that an Israeli attack on Lebanon could escalate the Gaza Strip conflict, Palestine, into a wider regional war. (Ant/Z-2)
