Hundreds of dollars in savings per month thanks to…

The German branch of theenvironmental organizationGreenpeace, therefore conducted a big survey near households made up of one or two people, but also with families with at least two children under the age of 14. The results of this study are at least surprisingas they tend to show that due to theexplosion in fuel prices at the pump in recent weeks, the electric car became much more advantageous from a financial point of view.

In its study, the NGO compare thus two vehicles mid-range and in particular the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Golf 2.0 NO. According to Greenpeace calculations, the financial difference between these two models for use would be 180 euros per month at a rate of 15,000 km per year. the same exercise was repeated with a SUV like the Tiguan 2.0 TDI (and an ID.4) with an advantage which then rose for the electric model at 290 euros per month.

Reported over a yearthis difference still represents almost 3.500 euros. Good to know: these statistics compiled by Greenpeace Germany take into account recent fuel tax relief measures in recent weeks. If this were not the case, the difference would still have been more important.

Depend on Russia

The positioning of Greenpeace in this approach is not only financial. Indeed, the organization indicates that buying a thermal car today also comes down to depending on hydrocarbon suppliers and therefore, by extension, on Vladimir Poutine.

For Greenpeace, 2022 would therefore be the right time to switch to everything electric not only for ecological reasons, but also economic and ethical. The organization also takes the opportunity to remind you that being able to abandon your car in favor biking and public transport, this brings the total savings to 700 euros per month.

Again, theinitiative of Greenpeace – like that of other organizations of this type – is interesting and it shows that, in usethe electric car rest less expensive. That said, these studies never take into account the higher purchase price electric cars or installation costs of one home terminal or the higher fees of the sometimes necessary quick refills. A fragmented vision which, inevitably, truncates reality.

Anyway, if oil prices continue to rise, all these NGOs will be more and more right. And, who knows, the difference in cost might perhaps one day offset the difference in electrical/thermal purchase price.
