Humanitarian mission with doctors from several countries will perform surgeries in Alto Paraná and Itapúa

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Paraguayan Section of the International College of Surgeons is starting a Medical Humanitarian Mission from this Tuesday until July 10 in the towns of Itapúa and Alto Paraná. They estimate that around 120 surgical procedures and medical care in various specialties will be provided for around 1,000 patients during those days.

The mission will be in the cities of Encarnación and María Auxiliadora, in the department of Itapúa, as well as in Ciudad del Este and Presidente Franco, in the department of Alto Paraná.

Guest specialists will carry out consultations and medical procedures in collaboration with local professionals and staff from the Ministry of Public Health, in official facilities.

This project involves the participation of an international delegation of doctors from Taiwan, Poland, Mexico, Indonesia and Guatemala, all of them members of the International College of Surgeons.

This initiative is a continuation of the successful mission carried out in 2019 in the same region and is expected to have a significant impact on the communities served.

In addition to medical care, medical training sessions will be held in the designated locations, benefiting both local health professionals and the general population.

The World President of the International College of Surgeons, Guido Parquet, highlighted that they will perform approximately 120 surgical procedures and treat nearly 1,000 patients.

He stressed that they have 18 foreign doctors, mostly from Taiwan, but also from Mexico, Guatemala and Indonesia, who bring donations of medical materials valued at more than 100,000 dollars, including valves, lenses for cataract surgeries, surgical sealants, mesh for hernia repair and more, he said.

Medical services offered

During the Humanitarian Mission, specialists will provide family medicine and ophthalmology consultations; surgical procedures such as video laparoscopic cholecystectomies, herniorrhaphies, transurethral resection, creation of arteriovenous fistulas, cataract surgeries and placement of ventriculoperitoneal valves; in addition to diagnostic procedures, including upper and lower endoscopies, cervical Pap smears, electrocardiograms and ultrasounds.

It is worth noting that the Paraguayan section of the International College of Surgeons has the support of the Taiwanese section, chaired by Professor Aij Lie Kwang, and that in the four inland towns, Encarnación, María Auxiliadora, Ciudad del Este and Presidente Franco, patients have been selected to undergo different types of surgery.

The concept is to bring medical care to places where there is none, with the support of doctors who selflessly travel great distances to help alleviate the hardship and misfortune of our people, says the Paraguayan Section of the International College of Surgeons.
