THE family of a victim of Human Trafficking (TPPO) who is currently being held captive in Myanmar, Yohana, 35, told of the torture inflicted on victim SA when she did not deposit the money requested by the kidnappers. While being tortured, SA was witnessed by several armed groups.
““He was dragged into a room while he was sleeping, around 2 am. In the room there were several armed men and bosses,” said Yohana at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta, Friday, August 16, 2024.
Yohana said that before being beaten, SA was handcuffed and his face was covered with a plastic bag. SA’s legs were beaten with a baseball bat until they were numb.
“SA told us that when he was beaten at that time his legs became numb,” said Yohana.
Previously, SA was threatened to be mutilated if he did not pay 30 percent of the amount of money previously requested. However, this was a threat so that SA would provide the requested ransom.
The ransom demanded has now changed to Rp19 million. The amount is much reduced from the previous bill because the family said they could not afford to pay.
He explained that the family last contacted SA on August 14, 2024. SA is still in a confined condition and has many gunshot wounds on his legs.
