Human Rights Commission files a case in Tripunithura custodial death

The Human Rights Commission has opened an investigation into the death of a man who was taken into custody during a vehicle inspection in Tripunithura. The Kochi City Police Commissioner has been asked to conduct an investigation and provide a report.

The victim, a 53-year-old named Manoharan from Irumpanam farmer colony, passed away. The Tripunithura Hillpalas police station’s SI Jimmy Jose was suspended in connection with the incident, which will be looked into by the District Crime Branch.

According to witnesses, during the vehicle inspection, the police gestured to Manoharan, who stopped his vehicle by moving forward a bit. After he changed his helmet, a policeman allegedly struck him in the face. It is claimed that Manoharan was also beaten while in the police jeep.

Manoharan collapsed in front of his friends and acquaintances who had come to the station following hearing regarding the situation at around 9 pm. He was taken to Taluk Hospital and then to a private hospital in Kochi, but he succumbed to his injuries.
