Human remains identified, mystery solved 47 years later

Human remains discovered in Virginia, United States, were identified on Monday, police confirmed. They are those of a teen who disappeared 47 years ago, FOX 59 reported.

In 1975, Patricia Agnes Gildawie disappeared at the age of 17.

Several decades later, on September 27, 2001, a construction crew found human remains and some clothing near a ditch behind an apartment building in McLean.

The medical examiner’s office had determined that this person had died of a gunshot wound to the head, but could not identify him.

Earlier this year, detectives managed to track down Patricia Agnes Gildawie’s half-sister through tests.

Before disappearing, Gildawie was dating an older man who worked at a tapestry shop.

“The identification of this young woman solves a mystery that has lasted more than 47 years,” said Ed O’Carroll, Chief of the Major Crimes and Cybercrime Bureau.

With new information provided by Gildawie’s family, detectives will continue their investigation.
